The NWHHS Oral Health Service provides a statewide schedule of dental services to eligible patients living in Mount Isa and the surrounding district. The service is aimed at stabilisation and prevention of oral disease and maintenance of function in the district.

Services provided:

  • Primary dental care, which involves a range of preventative and general clinical treatment services, is provided from the main clinic at Mount Isa Base Hospital.
  • Community Health clinics, school dental clinics and the mobile dental van.

The community dental centres provide dental care to adults and children within the North West Hospital and Health Service.

The school dental clinics/mobile dental vans provide preventive dental care and clinical treatment. Fluoride screening occurs annually on site at primary schools.

  • Children are triaged according to clinical needs and prioritised to waiting lists for treatment at their local dental clinic.
  • School clinics are centralised due to maintenance costs. Current fixed school dental clinics in Mt Isa are at:
        • Townview State School
        • Sunset State School
