Former Mount Isa nurses lead donation of baby blankets and wraps for the Mount Isa Hospital

19th April 2023

A recent donation of baby blankets and wraps from the Redlands Uniting Church Craft Club has boosted supplies on the Maternity Ward and Special Care Nursery at the Mount Isa Hospital.

Two ex-Mount Isa nurses from the 1970’s, who are members of the club, led the initiative and together the group made or purchased more than 50 wraps and blankets to donate to the hospital.

Jo La Spina, Neonatal Nurse Practitioner at the Mount Isa Hospital, expressed her gratitude for the donation.

“We are grateful for the generosity of the club and the time and effort that has gone into making these wraps and blankets. With a number of babies born over Easter, they came at the right time and have already been put to use,” she said.

“This donation is a reminder of the power of community and it is heartening to see former Mount Isa nurses giving back to the community they once called home.”

The Redlands Uniting Church Craft Club regularly meet for coffee, cake, companionship and to produce craft for the community.

North West HHS acknowledges the hard work and dedication of the Redlands Uniting Church Craft Club in supporting the local community, and we thank them for their generosity and kindness in donating these much-needed items to our Maternity Unit and Special Care Nursery.
