First vaccine recipient for Mount Isa - Dr Don Bowley OAM, Flying Doctor and NWHHS Board member, was the first to roll up his sleeve!

Our Mount Isa vaccination hub was launched today with the vaccine being rolled out in planned stages. The first people to receive the vaccine are those at greatest risk of exposure through their day-to-day work, and those most vulnerable to suffering severe disease from COVID-19.

“I believe in this vaccination and its benefits both for individuals and the community. The covid vaccine is safe and I am happy to have it," Dr Bowley said.

“As a frontline healthcare worker, I want to protect myself, my family, my colleagues, and all people in the region that receive care from the RFDS. Many of these are first nations people, people with chronic disease, or elderly and they are at a much higher risk of severe illness.”

We want to assure all people in the North West that everyone who can be vaccinated will have the opportunity, and NWHHS will continue to keep the community informed as local rollout plans keep progressing.

Soon, pending supply, we’ll also be able to bring online some outreach vaccination clinics in our remote facilities.
