The Special Care Nursery at Mount Isa Hospital recently received packages of brand-new newborn clothing and bedding from an anonymous donor.

Special Care Nursery, Nurse Unit Manager Jo La Spina said the packages were a very welcomed surprise and would be a wonderful addition to the ward.

“When babies end up in the Special Care Nursery it is unexpected, so parents don’t often have clothing items small enough to comfortably fit their little one,” she said.

“These new items will ensure the babies in the Special Care Nursery are warm and comfortable while they spend some extra time in hospital getting stronger.”

One of the first babies to be dressed in the new items was baby Peyton born on 5 January 2022, weighing only 1.37kg.

Mum Brianna shared that Peyton had recently returned from Townsville Hospital and will stay in the Special Care Nursery at Mount Isa Hospital for a few more weeks.

“We didn’t have anything small enough to fit her, so the onesies are great while we are here for a few more weeks before we can take her home,” she said.

A variety of short-sleeve and long-sleeve onesies, wraps and sheets were included in the packages.

Staff of the Special Care Nursery sincerely thank the donor(s) for the items.
