Celebrating decades of dedication across the North West

There was plenty to celebrate this week as staff from across the North West Hospital and Health Service (HHS) gathered to mark this year’s Length of Service Awards, recognising the people who continue to show up for our communities, year after year.

From 5 years of service through to an incredible 45 years, the awards honoured team members whose commitment, compassion and resilience help keep healthcare strong across our region.

This year’s longest-serving recipient, Debbie Smith, Cloncurry Administration supervisor and born and raised local, was recognised for an extraordinary 45 years of service! She has built her legacy across decades of evolving healthcare, changing technology and countless shifts alongside trusted colleagues. Debbie reflected on the many staff she has worked with over the years, saying it is the people and the sense of community that have made her time in the North West so special.

Members of the North West Hospital and Health Service Board and Executive Leadership Team travelled to Cloncurry to personally present awards to local recipients, including Debbie, ensuring staff across every corner of the region were celebrated for the difference they make close to home.

Acting Health Service Chief Executive, Andrew Quabba, said the longevity of the North West workforce is something to be deeply proud of.

“Working in rural and remote healthcare takes grit and teamwork. Our staff choose to serve their communities often across great distances and challenging conditions, and that commitment does not go unnoticed. We are incredibly proud of the people who make up our North West team.”

Executive Director People, Culture and Planning, Sylvie Brdjanovic, said the awards were an opportunity to pause and reflect on the people behind the services.

“The Length of Service Awards give us the opportunity to formally recognise staff who give so much to our health service and to the communities we serve. Whether it’s 5 or 45 years, it’s important that we take the time to acknowledge their contribution and thank them for the difference they make every day.”

The Length of Service Awards reflect the resilience and determination of our North West workforce. They are a team that meets challenges head-on, supports one another, and continues delivering care across some of the most remote communities in Queensland.
