We recruit medical interns and resident medical officers (RMOs) for full time, 12 month positions at Mount Isa Hospital, working 76 hours a fortnight.

Training and support

Our education program for interns includes:

  • orientation
  • 2 education sessions a week
  • weekly grand rounds led by visiting and local specialists
  • skills sessions, like plastering workshops
  • journal clubs
  • simulation training
  • advanced life support and advanced paediatric life support courses.

You'll also have:

  • career guidance from our director of clinical training
  • personal and professional support from our Medical Workforce Unit
  • access to our RMO lounge with computers and internet access
  • an onsite library with medical textbooks, journals, computers and printers.

Our Rural Generalist Pathway training is accredited through the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) and the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP). You could start in Mount Isa as an intern and finish with a fellowship as a rural generalist or GP.

Medical interns

As a medical intern, you'll experience a range of different clinical areas.

We offer rotations in:

  • emergency medicine
  • general medicine
  • general surgery
  • obstetrics and gynaecology
  • paediatrics.

You may go to outreach clinics at Cloncurry, Mornington Island, Normanton and Doomadgee as part of your rotations.

Resident medical officer (RMO) and registrar jobs

Roles are available for:

  • registrars (REG)
  • principal house officers (PHO)
  • senior house officers (SHO)
  • junior house officers (JHO).
