Our support team may read and share your message with other Queensland Health teams to improve services.

We’ll never ask for payment or bank details by email or SMS.
If you receive a suspicious message:
- don’t click links or open attachments
- contact us directly to check.
Email communication with health professionals
Some services offer email as a way to communicate about your care.
Not all services use email. Your healthcare professional will let you know.
Email isn't for emergencies. Call Triple Zero (000) or contact your GP.
Email also doesn’t replace appointments or telehealth.
Consent
If you choose to use email:
- your healthcare professional will record your consent
- you’ll confirm your email address
- you can withdraw consent anytime.
Risks of using email
- Emails may go to the wrong place or be intercepted
- Emails may go to spam or junk folders
- Staff may not read or reply immediately
- Emails may be stored, forwarded, or printed
- Admin staff may manage emails on behalf of clinicians
- Employers or email providers may access emails
We take reasonable steps to protect your information, but we can’t guarantee email security.
What can be sent by email
Your healthcare professional will explain what’s appropriate. This may include:
- appointment details
- test information
- a summary for your GP (with your consent).
Appointment details may also be sent by text message (SMS).
If you email your health professional, include:
- a clear subject line, like 'appointment' or 'advice'
- your full name, date of birth, and patient record number (URN), if known.
Avoid sending sensitive medical information by email.
Keeping your email safe
You’re responsible for:
- protecting your email account and password
- updating us if your email changes
- telling us what information you don’t want sent by email.
Your healthcare provider isn’t responsible for breaches caused by you or others.
Encrypted emails
We send emails in encrypted format. You’ll receive instructions on how to open them. If you have trouble accessing an encrypted email, contact the clinical service that sent it.
Body worn cameras (BWCs)
Security officers and environmental health officers may wear body worn cameras (BWCs) that record video and audio.
BWCs are clearly visible and used to promote safety and accountability.
Footage may be shared with police, lawyers, or courts if needed and when lawfully required.

- Hospitals and health centres
- Tobacco retailers, vape stores, and other regulated locations
Why we use BWCs
- Monitoring safety risks
- Recording interactions for investigations
- Collecting evidence for enforcement or review
- Ensuring compliance with the Tobacco and Other Smoking Products Act and Medicines and Poisons Act
Environmental health officers will let you know when recording is taking place.
How we store and protect information
We store information in:
- document and records management systems
- cloud storage
- browser storage and cookies.
We only keep information as long as needed for its purpose. All data is stored on secure Australian servers and protected under the Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld).
We use security measures to prevent:
- unauthorised access
- loss or misuse
- alteration or disclosure.

- request corrections or updates
- ask us not to share your information
