Why we’re expanding
We’re building a new hospital and community health centre to improve health care for the community and surrounding areas.
The upgrades will better support emergency care, ongoing health needs, mental health and community care.
The Queensland Government is funding this project as part of a $1 billion investment in rural and remote health.
What we're building
Our new hospital will offer more health services in modern, culturally safe spaces and will include:
- 24-hour emergency department with x-ray and more hospital beds
- A welcoming entry and reception, and comfortable waiting areas
- Private consultation rooms
- Spaces for community and allied health services, including dental
- A renal (kidney care) treatment unit.
Get involved
We’re working closely with the Doomadgee Aboriginal Shire Council, Yellagundgimarra Aboriginal Health Council, Gunawuna Jungai team, and Traditional Custodians of the land.
Ongoing community feedback is helping shape the hospital’s design and cultural features, ensuring it meets local needs and respects cultural values.
Jobs
As we grow and finish our hospital, we’ll need more staff members to join our team. You can search our current vacancies or register your interest in future jobs when our hospital opens.
