Our culture

We’re proud to provide kind, inclusive and safe care across the North West region. We partner with the communities we serve to offer trusted, connected and high quality health services.

We’re committed to better health for everyone, with a strong focus on improving outcomes for First Nations peoples. We work together, support each other’s growth and embrace change to find better ways to provide care.

We listen and learn from each other, celebrate success and create a place where people feel supported, valued and able to grow.

Our values

Our shared values guide everything we do. They help us create inclusive and effective workplaces that support staff to achieve our goals.

Our values shape what matters most to us as a health service, including how we treat each other and the people we care for.

Our region

Our region covers about 300,000 square kilometres across North Western Queensland and the Gulf of Carpentaria.

We care for around 32,000 people living in regional and remote communities.

We provide services through a regional hospital, multipurpose health services, remote hospitals, primary health clinics and community health centres.

We care for this region because we’re part of it. We’re dedicated to improving health for the people who live here.

Living in our region

Living in North West Queensland is unforgettable. The rugged beauty of the outback meets the vibrancy of diverse and welcoming communities. From the Gulf of Carpentaria to the heart of the Queensland outback, our region offers natural wonders, rich culture and opportunities for adventure.

In Karumba and Normanton, life revolves around the Gulf’s shimmering waters. You’ll find world class fishing, breathtaking sunsets, and a laid back lifestyle. Nearby Burketown, known as the barramundi capital, features spectacular landscapes. This includes the morning glory cloud, a rare rolling cloud formation, and wetlands full of wildlife.

Doomadgee and Mornington Island connect you to First Nations culture through art, traditions and stories of the land. Dajarra is rich in First Nations history and reflects the region’s pastoral heritage.

Cloncurry, McKinlay, and Julia Creek host vibrant community events, have rich agricultural industries, and friendly locals. Cloncurry is the proud birthplace of the Royal Flying Doctor Service. Julia Creek is home to the Dirt n Dust Festival and nearby natural attractions. McKinlay offers an authentic outback experience and is home to the famous Walkabout Creek Hotel.

Mount Isa is the region's dynamic hub, with careers in mining, healthcare, and education. It’s a cultural hotspot, home to the Mount Isa Rodeo and a range of shops, dining and recreation.
